How KSB is governed

Guided by the community

Kodava Samaja Bengaluru thrives through a shared commitment to our heritage and mutual support. Our governance is thoughtfully structured across three tiers so every voice is represented. At the forefront is the Office Bearers, six elected community leaders serving a three-year term. They work hand in hand with a 30-member Managing Committee and a select group of co-opted members who bring invaluable specific expertise to our initiatives. The current electoral term runs from 21st September 2025 through 2028.

President

Chiriapanda S Suresh Nanjappa

Term · 2025–2028

CHIRIAPANDA SURESH NANJAPPA is a community leader, sports achiever, and business professional. He was born on 9 February 1973 to Chiriapanda Subbaiah and Kaveramma in Balele. He completed his schooling in Balele and St. Anne’s, Virajpet, and later studied at St. Philomena’s College, Puttur, graduating in the B.B.M. from St. Aloysius College, Mangalore.

He is married to Ashwini daughter of Madeyanda Ravi Kunjappa and Rathi from Madikeri. The couple has two children: their daughter, Mishti Nanjappa, who is currently pursuing MBBS at Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS)Bengaluru, and their son, Kanav Cariappa,  is studying in the 10th grade.

He has a strong background in athletics and is known for his performances in javelin and other track and field events. He holds a University record in javelin (1992) and has represented and won at multiple levels, including junior state competitions and South Canara district events in Karnataka. He has also represented and won in South Zone events, along with achieving recognition in various sports athletic competitions.

He is a successful business owner and proprietor, associated with multiple steel and metal enterprises including Suresh Steels, Bangalore Blue Metals, and Sri Kaveri Blue Metals.

He has served in several leadership roles within the Kodava community. He was the Honorary Secretary of Kodava Samaja, Vasanthnagar, Bengaluru. Honorary  Secretary of Kengeri kodava Sangha and also served as the President of Field Marshall Kodava Okkuta (Kengeri) for seven years.

He is the Founder Director of the Nagarbhavi Credit Co-operative Society, Bengaluru, and currently serves as the President of Kodava Samaj, Bengaluru.

He works with different organizations to support the development of education and sports, and to help those in need through community-focused initiatives.

He achieved a landmark accomplishment as the first Kodava film producer to receive the State Award for the movie “Naa Puttena Mann” in the Best Regional Movie category in 2011.

Vice President

Chiriyapanda Asha Vivek

Term · 2025–2028

Chiriyapanda Asha Vivek Muthanna, Vice President of Kodava Samaja Bengaluru, hails from Kanoor, and her thaamane is Paruvangada (Besagur). She is the daughter of the late Gappu Ganapati (B.Sc., LL.B.) and Paruvangada Leela Ganapati (Konganda). She is married to Lt Col Chiriyapanda Vivek Muthanna (Retd), and the couple live in Sultanpalya, Bengaluru.

An alumna of St Joseph’s Convent, Madikeri, and Teresian College, Mysuru, Asha graduated from Jyoti Nivas College, Bengaluru. She went on to complete a homemakers’ course at the Cultural Academy, Chennai, and qualified as a Montessori guide with Modern Montessori International, London, teaching for two years at a school in New Delhi for the children of foreign diplomats.

Asha married Vivek soon after her studies in Chennai. As an Army wife, she was closely involved in the welfare of soldiers’ families at the stations where the couple were posted.

Following Vivek’s retirement from the Indian Army, they settled in Bengaluru, in the neighbourhood of the Sri Vijaya Ganapathi Kodava Sangha, Sultanpalya (SVGKS). Asha has been an active member of the Sangha’s cultural and sports teams, taking part in many cultural events as part of the Ummathat and playing badminton for the Sangha.

She served on the Executive Council of Kodava Samaja Bengaluru during the term in which the present President was Honorary Secretary, and chaired the Samaja’s Cultural Committee, working to uphold the culture and traditions of the Kodava community. In the same period, alongside other Executive Council members and under the initiative of Chiriapanda Suresh Nanjappa, she played an active part in the physical occupation of the Samaja’s 7-acre land.

As Vice President, Asha continues to work with the rest of the management towards the efficient functioning of Kodava Samaja Bengaluru, and to enrich Kodava culture and practice.

Mallengada S Muthanna

Term · 2025–2028

Mallengada S. Muthanna, Joint Treasurer of Kodava Samaja Bengaluru, is the son of the late Mallengada Subbaiah and Gowramma. He is a respected and dedicated cultural contributor, with a long association with Kodava organisations and a deep commitment to preserving and promoting Kodava culture and tradition.

He is married to Sudha Muthanna, daughter of Ajjamada Muthanna and Parvathi. The couple has two children: their daughter, Shilpika Muthanna, and their son, Sharon Kushalappa.

He has served the Samaja as a Managing Committee member from 2004 to 2008 and as Convenor of the Cultural Committee from 2006 to 2008, and was Coordinator for the Kodava Samaja Centenary Celebrations in 2011.

He has more than twenty-five years of experience in the Kodava traditional Aat Paat, and has contributed to cultural programmes at Kodava Samaja Bengaluru and at various Kodava Sanghas, reflecting an enduring passion for Kodava heritage and tradition.
